The Restoration Works at Trades Hall are moving along at a pace and it looks like it won't be long now before we start work on the main portico.
Its a big week this week at the Workers' Palace.
To start with, we congratulate the new Federal Government on its decision to say a big 'sorry' to the stolen generations of indigenous Australians. Everyone is invited up to the Bella Union Bar tomorrow morning to watch the event live on the big screen. Just come in under the big SORRY banner that's just being painted as I write (its drying between coats).
Tomorrow, we celebrate Valentine's Day with OzPeace holding a 'Make Love Not War' gig on the Lygon St lawns: check out www.ozpeace.net for details.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Trades hall continues on a similar theme with the (by now traditional) performances of the Vagina Monologues raising money for a range of organisations working to stop violence against women. check out www.vdaymelbourne.lgbtiq.com
Its your last few days to see Wishing Well's Midsumma production of 'Searching for Comets' which closes this Sunday. See myspace.com/wishingwellproductions.
In the Bella Union Bar we kick off Crafty Comedy: the only stand up show with a craft stall. See www.comedyattrades.com.au
and while you're there have a look at their lineup for the 2008 Comedy Festival apearing at the hall.
This year's comedy offerring will be bigger & better than ever and for the first time, we'll be opening up the Vic St Basement to create another couple of theatre spaces.
Trades Hall Council meets next Thursday 21st Feb in the New Council Chamber, all are welcome and the following Saturday, 23rd Feb, Socialist Alliance is holding a Public Meeting "Challenges in the fight for workers' rights & against global warming" with Steve Dargavel (Secretary, AMWU), Michelle O'Niel (Secretary TCFUA), Ralph Edwards (Secretary CFMEU) and Tim Gooden (Geelong TLC) http://www.socialist-alliance.org/melbourne/
